Fixing AVI Audio - modular distortion?

I have a movie (.avi file) and the audio is sync'ed ok with the video....but the voices sound like 'voices when you slow down the speed'

The 'voices' are low and slowed down but the sync seems okay...

Never encountered a 'bad file' like this one...

Any ideas of a fix or work around?

OKay.....found a work around.

I used SUPER to play it....and the sound is perfect now....

WHY????????????

oh, I installed a vista codec pack. I was using VLC to play it before...
