I have a Sony DCR-TRV22 camcorder that I am able to capture video thru Windows MovieMaker via its USB driver. I have the following questions:

    1. I have tried to use WinDV but get the error message 'Can't find DV output pin'. I only want to use WinDV to capture but this error (which appears to apply only to sending video to the camcorder) will not allow it. Is there a workaround?

    2. What alternative capture software (free) is available that I should check out? Would it be better than MovieMaker?

    3. What parameters should I use for capturing, e.g., frame speed, compression (YUY2?), etc.?

    4. What is the best free video editing software that I can download?

    Thanks in advance.

I too have the TRV22 camcorder. You definately want to use the firewire cable with it, not the USB.

The reason you get the error message, 'Can't find DV output pin', is because you did not connect your cam to firewire.

USB gets you CIF 352x240 single field only. This is intended for Netmeeting or other low quality streaming.

Use Firewire if you want quality transfer.
