I have a Cannon Elura 100 that records in NTSC and I have suceeded with a firewire to download it to a wmv file on my pc that plays with windows media. Then I have tried to convert this wmv file to a DVD and burned it onto DVD using NERO Express 7. Then view it with my LG V161 DVD player on a Sony Brava LCD TV. No luck. I also have suceeded in viewing the mini DV by directly hooking up the camcorder to the TV. I think the problem is with the conversion or the LG DVD player but really have no idea. Need some help.
    Thanks,
    DNA

you've got an extra step in there...wmv isn't needed
cap your DV with winDV, convert to a compliant mpeg2, and author

I'll try tomorrow to download winDV and then use the firewire to capture the miniDV in AVI format and then to convert it to DVD before burning it. Hope this is what you mean.
    I'll let you know Zoobie.

Just to mention, if you are using Windows Movie Maker for editing the DV, it can output as DV video, then you could eliminate the WMV step, which is totally unnecessary for DVD creation and will just cause quality loss and problems. I would also recommend WinDV for the DV transfer.

You might also put your problem DVD into your computer and see what format it really is. Gspot or MediaInfo can open one of the VOBs and you can check that against the DVD specifications. You will find them in 'WHAT IS' DVD to the upper left on this page.

I also assume you have no problem viewing NTSC DVDs on your system? Or are you converting it to PAL somewhere in there?

    And welcome to our forums.

    Big Red,
For now just trying to to convert the raw miniDV to a DVD so I can save it and watch it more easily on the TV. No problem viewing NTSC but I had thought I needed PAL conversion and tried both conversions with no luck. WinDV tomorrow and hopfully suceess. Thanks guys.
