How to rip subs (2)

Good day everyone.

Following the thread with the same title in this page I would like to do one question about that.
With a movie in VHS can we convert it to DVD and then we are in the situation of the other thread. But the "original" SRT files that appear how can one obtain those subtitles and the times? Only by ear and try-and-try? Isn't there any program to aid this?

Many sites has subtitles for movies(GOOOGLE), but you probably have to resync it manually using for example subtitle workshop.

The next ones are built by translation of the first one. But this first one how is it built?

You could use Subtitle Workshop, Aegisub, etc.
Subtitle tools

If you seriously want to do this, see the Newbie's Video Guide to Fansubbing: Timing, Typesetting, Encoding, which links to a video how-to using Aegisub. You'll see lots of other information at that forum.

I understand written English enough to maintain these "dialogs". With spoken English I'm a zero. I thought there was another process easier and other programs.

If you look at the video guide, it's actually someone who does not speak Japanese who is syncing up a subtitle for a Japanese anime. So fluency is not required -- though the original transcriber needs to be, of course. But if you search on OpenSubtitles and similar suites, you can find subtitles for almost every movie and a lot of TV shows.

I have an English series of TV from 1972 more or less, and what is strange is that there are no subtitles in any language to translate to portuguese provided that it is one of the best series ever.

Well, what is it? As long as you're not giving awy downlaods, you can mention hte name.

If you dig around you may find a fan forum with people who may, for instance, have scripts, etc. that you can use.

O.K. I don't mention the name but in this case there is no problem.

IT is War and Peace (1972) with Anthony Hopkins a series in 20 episodes.

I don't understand why there are not subtitles in English or Franch or Spanish.
