My laptop has firewire i-Link interface. Do I need to buy a Hi8 camcorder with i.Link interface to transfer data to DVD or can this be done another way?

As Hi-8 is an analog format, I am not aware of any Hi-8 camcorder that has a firewire port. Digital-8 (which can play Hi-8 video, making the analog-to-video conversion internally) and MiniDV do have firewire ports.
