My friend shot a movie on his handycam (not sure what brand) and uploaded the movies onto his mac then sent them to me. I think they are .DV files. I want to edit them on my PC using windows movie maker or some other program. But I cannot get them to load and whenever i try to convert them to .avi or some otherformat, it fails.

The details of the files are:

    Format: DV - PAL, 768 x 576 Millions
    DV Stereo, 48,000 Khz
    Movie FPS 25.00
    Playing FPS 25.00
    Data Rate 57.58 mbits/sec

How can I convert these files? I tried the help information on this website for covert .dv files but it does not work. I can provide more information - let me know what else I should provide.

    Thanks for reading this

Try mpeg streamclip or quicktime pro and convert to avi-dv.

thanks for the quick reply. Tried mpeg streamclip to covert to both .avi and mpeg4 using the default settings. Both times the file will successfully covert but when try to import it into windows movie maker for editing, the .avi file makes the program crash and the mpg4 file produces the error "not a valid windows movie maker file". Tried this with a couple of the raw .dv files to make sure it was not an error with one particular file. any suggestions? any particular settings i need to use on mpeg streamclip?

Did you try avi with Compression: Apple DV and Sound: Uncompressed in mpeg streamclip?

It seems to work fine in moviemaker here.

  6. For future reference, if you want to convert raw .DV files to AVI files that are still DV format, you can run them through our Enosoft DV Processor (see signature).
