Is there a way that I can be able to play embedded windows media in websites in Firefox without having the actual windows media player itself installed as I'd like to avoid installing that thing if possible...

it comes with windows which is why it's the most compatible
what you could do is instruct your visitors to right click a link and "save target/link as" using
Code:My Video
and let them choose their own player -
Actually, I meant for me being able to see videos on a website, without having windows media player installed:

Maybe it's enough with microsofts silverlight and http://www.jeroenwijering.com/?item=JW_WMV_Player .
Or use FLASH with flv or mp4 video.
