How to join / merge 'mts' video files generated from Panasonic HDC-SD9 high definition camcorder into a single file and convert it to 'ts' file ?

I have tried different methods to join 'mts' files by using DOS copy command, tsMuxeR, tsSplitter and tsRemux. When playing the output file, there is a problem at every joint of the video clips. The video either halt or unsynchronise at the joint. The video can be resumed normal after 'Stop' and 'Play' again.

In addition, the camcorder creates a new 'mts' file whenever the 'record' button is activated. As a result, I was given 40-60 files for one hour recording. I need a function of mass merging and conversion of the 'mts' files to a single 'ts' file to facilitate management.

Can anyone advise on the proper setting at 'tsMuxeR' / 'tsSplitter' / 'tsRemux' or advise other freeware that will resolve the video halt problem ? Is there any tool that can offer the mass selection and merge the 'mts' video files ?

mts: A file extension for the AVCHD video format. You cannot knit the files together using dos commands. Search the forums about editing AVCHD. The tools you mentioned should be useful, but from looking at your computer specs, you likely don't have the power to deal with this type of video.

You picked one of the tougher video formats to deal with.

    Hi, filmboss80,

Thank you very much for your kindly advice. Commercial softwares on AVCHD editing are very powerful but it needs rendering to produce the output. Not only the rendering process requires high computer power, but also it is time consuming.

The 'HD Writer 2.5E' came with my camcorder can do some simple editing jobs and burning of AVCHD files onto DVD media. It is good enough for me and it can run on my PC as well. However, this tool cannot join the mts files such that hundreds of video clip files are hardly to manage in my harddisk. Thats the main reason I want to merge all related video clips together to failitate future searching and playback.

I agreed that all the 'tsRemux', 'tsMuxeR' and 'tsSplitter' are good tools. They are very efficient to merge and convert the video files. The only problem found at my usage was the hanging up at the joint of video (mts) files. There are some user options (e.g. Use async I/O, Bypass Audio Alignment, etc.) but I do not know its exact functions (due to lack of user manual). May I have your expertise advice ?

In fact, I am looking for some other simple and efficient tools to join the 'mts' video files. Can you also help ?

Can anyone share your valuable experience on joining mts / m2ts files ?
How can you handle your video files created from HD Camcorder (like Panasonic HDC-SD9 or Sony HDR-SR12) ?

I can burn all video files to AVCHD format on DVD but this method is quite time consuming. And the DVD has limited my video files to less than 40 minutes.

  5. I got a few MTS files (approx 1.9 GB) after a shooting a 3 hour event. I used tsmuxer to join them following this thread and here is the error message I get.

    SmartLabs tsMuxeR. Version 1.10.6 http://www.smlabs.net Decoding H264 stream (track 1): Profile: High@4.0 Resolution: 1440:1080i Frame rate: 29.97
H.264 stream does not contain fps field. Muxing fps=29.97

    Please help! Thanks.

I have a similar situation. My Canon HF S11 camcorder produces hundreds of AVCHD mts clips. I have successfully used Tsmuxer and joined these clips into a single large file.

    My workup is :

1 - Change the extension of these files from mts to ts
2 - In Tsmuxer, open the first file, then join the others
3 - In the output section select AVCHD disk

Tsmuxer will make a folder called BDMV, open it and look for a STREAM folder which should have a single m2ts file. This file runs smoothly on my PC, which is by the way, a quad core [intel core i7].

If you wish you can change its extension to mts or ts. I have noted that VLC handles these extensions the same way.

I hope these comments will be of some help!

It would be helpful if you could provide two short samples to look into them, and a text report of MediaInfo might help as well.

An afterthought: Despite throwing this error, the program may actually went a head and did the muxing. Have you checked your folders for any BDMV folder?
