how to join two .mkv files

Hi all,

last night i downloaded movie "The Pianist"...an excellent movie

but the problem with that was it was in mkv format and that too split into two files....

How can i join the two mkv files so that i have a single mkv file...

and another small doubt...

the movies that i am downloading many of them are of 800 x 420 (mostly anamorphic) resolution or around it..

whatever the movies i download i write them onto a DVD...

and next week we are buying a SONY BRAVIA full HD television...

what is the best procedure to get the same quality of movies on the TV so that i can enjoy my movies...
