Right, now be patient. I've read buckets loads on forums websites and if I've missed the answer somewhere, I apologise.

I'm capturing a home video (PAL) with a BT8X8 (Avermedia TV98) capture card using VDub and the PICView MJPEG codec set to 19, YUY2 at 480 x 576 resolution (interlaced).

I'm encoding the AVI with TMPEnc 2.51 using the standard SuperVCD(PAL) template. No filters, no nothing. When I burn the SVCD and play it using my Hiteker (Apex/Haier) AD700 I get a slight flicker as if the interlaced fields aren't quite right BUT not as bad a judder if I'd completely got them wrong (I've tried all combinations). So far the best result is (the expected) source = interlaced, bottom field first, encode = interlace. The picture is quite good except the slight flicker.

I've also tried Swapping the fields in VDub, but this made it worse. I have the DTv (DScaler) stuff available, but it looks a bit bewildering and I don't know if any of the BT 8x8 tweak settings will help me.

Is there a way I can get my nice interlaced source onto an interlaced SVCD without the flicker? Am I missing something? Is this a problem with TMPEnc 2.51? Is there a capture setting I'm getting wrong? Am I after the Holy Grail?

thanks in advance
