Looking for suggestions on FLV converter software for a client of ours. He is required to convert dozens of video per week and sometimes per day. We set him up with Sorenson Squeeze 4.5 several months ago and spent plenty of (wasted) time adjusting settings for him. Now he's flipped out and refuses to go on with Squeeze because he claims it's difficult to work with

Anyway, He's on Vista and his ability to correctly use a computer is very poor and this is the guy in charge of a user-submitted video site we custom built for him. I have done some limited browsing for a replacement program, but have not had much luck other than Flix Pro. He also would like the ability to select crop ranges and preview the video right in the program. Sounds to me he liked Squeeze just fine. Ugh.

If anyone has suggestions on some software or need me to answer any more specific questions, please let me know.

    Thanks

  2. Can you clarify if you meant convert to FLV or from FLV?

What are your desired input and output formats/containers/codecs ?

When you say "select crop ranges" do you mean trim (as in cutting temporal segments) or crop (as in removing edges)?

That would be for converting TO FLV from various formats including AVI and WMV.

Output specs currently used in Squeeze are....
    Spark Pro
    2-Pass VBR
    768Kbps
    450x338
    30 fps

    Audio
    MP3
    48Kbps
    22050 Stereo

Crop range as in trimming, yes. Not removing edges.

I like Riva FLV Encoder personally.

  5. @hech54 - I don't think Riva has visual editing for trimming or batch capabilities?

Personally I would use avidemux for this, because it supports many formats, has visual editing, batch capabilities and best of all free. Unfortunately it takes a bit to get used to

It sounds like your client is not very computer saavy so you are looking for something "idiot proof." I've used Squeeze 5 and Flix Pro, both are not that difficult to use !

Sorry I have no better ideas - I hope others have easier to use / better suggestions

look no further than AVANTI - extremely user friendly and "easy peasy" to figure out and has all the requirements and more than what you asked.
I love it when a plan comes together!
