srt subtitles? If you don't know then post a short sample from the subtitle file, open with notepad.
Why doesn't subtitle workshop? Any error or how are you joining? -
hello,
with subtitle workshop it doesn't work cause
the resulting file is not in phase with the word during the film
while the original while it is.
In the original files (.txt) for cd1 (here are the first few lines) :
{1}{1}23.976
{4638}{4669}Let's do this.
{4734}{4778}Where the **** you been, kid?|I'm starving here.
{4781}{4810}Oh, shit!
I guess that 23.976 is the frame rate.
and it is the same in the second file for cd2
So when I tried to merge the file with "join " file feature I put 23.976
as frame rate but that gave me a text during the video which was not in phase with the word, plus, in the second half of the movie, even though the final file it is a merge of the first two(first half of movie and second half), the words are not shown as text , I don't see any subtitles......
Do you need to see the two files?
note that I have only one avi file but the only subtitles that I found and that work are
split in 2 files so I can't use the second file for the second half of the movie....I need to merge the 2 files
Thank you very much -

Did you try with SubtitleSync?
I think it might work for your problem.
http://www.subtitlesync.com.ar/lang-en/unir-subtitulos.html -
If you have the first part of the subtitle and the second part and you want to joint them in sequence, do the following:
Subtitle Workshop - Tools - Join subtitles - Add - (name of the first part) - Open - Add - (name of the second part) - open - (Check ( Mark x ) Recalculate values ) - Join! - Save as ( ????.srt )
I hope this is a solution of your problem. If so, tell me, please.

Hello,
thanks for answering,
So I can tell that I tried to merge the 2 files doing as "Jomapil" suggest but it didn't work = out of phase voice-sub
I 'll try soon with subtitle synch.
This looks very strange since the individual file work pretty good, but as soon as I merge the 2 it doesn't work anymore.
Thanks I 'll keep on trying
if you had any more idea ...please post it
Ciao ciao -
Hello, massimo.max.
When I do that as I told you there are some hypothesis:
1) If the two parts begin from the zero when we perform as I said, the second part fails the synchronism and you have to ressynchronize again.
2) The alternative is to have the two parts synchronized independently. If the two files are so ( The times of the first part begin from zero and the times of the second part begins from 1h12m by exemple) you can use the way I indicated you but uncheck "recalculate time values" and check "load file after joining and saving" and the times are well through the entire movie.
I hope you solve the problem. If not tell me. I'm also a beginner but I have some practice in joint ( and split ) subtitles. In this case you have to explain better how are the two files.
Ciao, Massimo. -
Ciao Jomapil,
So I tried as you said but once again I could not fix it.
the first file start this way:
{1}{1}23.976
{4638}{4669}Let's do this.
{4734}{4778}Where the **** you been, kid?|I'm starving here.
{4781}{4810}Oh, shit!
the second file starts this way:
{1}{1}23.976
{32}{84}Yeah, never seen him before.
{163}{215}AII right, y'aII, settIe down.
{220}{270}Listen up and pay attention.
I don't know what are the number into the {}
I just guess that {1}{1}23.976 indicates the FPS which should be 23.976
I also notice that not only the subs are out of synch, in the second part of the movie
(the movie is just one file.avi, the subtitles are 2 separated file.txt)
the subtitles which should be there cause I merged the 2 files are not there!!!!!!
So I don't know really what to do,
here are the 2 subs file just in case you wanna see them.
How can I resynch?
thanks a lot
Max

Hello, Massimo.
As you say, the two subtitles files are .sub . The numbers between {} are the number of the frames. You can convert those files in .srt that are more practical and they are converted in times.
To do that you must download SubtitleWorkshop and then
Subtitle Workshop - File - Load subtitle (choose one file) - File - Save as - SubRip ( 2 clicks) - Save
Repeat this to the other file and you have the two files in .srt ( in times and no frames ).
Now by what you say what you call first file has times ( and frames) higher and what you call the second file has times ( and frames ) lower. So what you say it is the first file it must be the second one and what you say the second one it must be the first one.
Try the two files one by one to see if they are both synchronized. If yes you can joint the two files by their order as I told you the other day. Don't forget in this case to uncheck "Recalculate ..." and to check "Load file after ...".
If they are not synchronized one by one tell me and I'll continue to try you to solve your problem.
I'm no good with English Language as you can see but I'm latin as you (portuguese) so you can understand me better than our English friends.
Ciao and I wait your news.

Ciao,
So thanks for the help....
The file which is called "grodt.cd1.xvid.dvdrip-deity.txt"
is the first part of the movie....in fact the movie start with a conversation saying "Let's do it"
but you're right the time of this file comes later respect to the second file which belong to the second half of the movie.
This is probably the reason why when I open the original file (the one .txt) for the second half of the movie
but I start the movie since the beginning, the sub starts appearing.......(shouldn't be so ...I am expecting to see the sub from the second half of the movie)
I tried to convert the files (both) into the format you said
but as soon as I do that, the synch is lost:
when I open the movie and I use the sub of the first part of the movie using the original .txt file,
the synch is perfect.....after that I did "save as" and I changed format the synch got lost.........
I kept the 23.976 FPS which I believe it the FPS of that.....why????? I don't know.
Then it is clear that there has been a mistake in creating the sub files cause the timing are wrong.
I believe they can be changed and then that the two files can be merged together but I really can't make it...
It is also strange that by changing the format of the file the synch is lost....this should not happen and I don't understand the reason.
So what to say
still thanks.......
let's see if can make it soon or later...
PS
Don't worry about your english that's good.
Thanks

How are you testing the synch in Subtitle Workshop? If by fast-forwarding to the second half of the movie, this may be your problem.
I have found through several dozens of tests that this method does not work. Uning FF in Subtitle Workshop results in an apparent loss of synch. Using the same files with no change whatsoever to author a DVD reveals that synch is, in fact, perfect.
Option is to jsut let the file play without fast-forwarding or scrubbing, this will accurately display synch
This is not to say that you may not actually have a problem. Just that if you are testing with FF, you can not count on Subtitle Workshop to reliably display subtitle synch. -
My experience with ( many ) "Joint two subtitles" is the following:
1) If the two files begin from time 00:00:000 and I use SubtitleWorkshop (SW) with "Joint subtitles" and check "Recalculate ... " the following happens : The first part (file) keeps the synchronism and the second part loose the synchronism. I don't use this method.
2) If the two files are in synchronism ( in separate ) when I joint them the assemblage keeps the synchronism of the two files . In this case - SW ----- "Joint subtitles" ----- Check " Load file after joining ...".
In the two cases DON'T FORGET TO KEEP ONLY ONE CHECKED AND THE OTHER ONE UNCHECKED.
The format I always use is SRT (times) and never SUB (frames) but I think this isn't important . It must be the same in both methods.
But, Massimo, you must manage to do this. I want to help you. If you don't manage send to me the 3 files that I do this for you and I see if there is something odd.
Ciao and till the next. -
Massimo, I already have the two subtitles files. OSend me only the movie file.
Ciao. -
I tried to send you a file with the subtitles in one CD that I found in the Net. but I didn't manage.
So I send you the adress where you can download that file from.

Ciao. -
Use subtitle workshop
Go>Tools>Join Subtitles (Ctrl+J) and add
(Add the files to join)
Check recalculate time view
Start Join....
Have enjoy!
