IS Updating Adobe Premiere Cs3's h264 codec possible?? I notice in the folder its a dll file. I wonder how we can use the latest and greatest codec of h264. Im not really impressed with the lower bitrate quality of adobes codec.

  2. Are you using the MainConcept plugin? Can't you just upgrade that?

Another option is to use the x264cli encoder if you either:
    1) Export as uncompressed or lossless
    2) Debugmode frameserver

x264cli has more options and quality settings than Mainconcept's h264 implementation, and generally can give you better quality

thanks for the response. not sure if I can just upgrade that.

that was another question I was going to ask as to which codec is the best for lossless? just microsoft dv avi? what would you export it as being lossless. I dont want raw video as thats insanely huge!

  4. dv-avi is not lossless, but it's close

lagarith or huffyuv are commonly used (free) lossless codecs (still large filesize)

but beware huffyuv sometimes has problems with premiere pro in terms of corrupted output

cool thanks for the tips. Ill try lagarith. shouldnt be as big as raw vid I hope. What Im really trying to attempt is a h264 codec update for CS3 and or exporting into lossless and encoding with megui or something of the like.

What were you saying about updating CS3? How would I go about doing that? and Im totally lost with the frameserver and what that does.

I assumed you are using the MainConcept plugin for Premiere, that is what most people use. If so, just upgrade from their website

The other possibility is that your are using ffdshow to encode h264 - that is quite poor quality, and there is not much you can do about it (except one of the above suggestions)

The frameserver just exports the Premiere project without creating a huge file. You feed the "fake" file into MeGUI or some other front end encoder. I haven't used it personally, but I heard it works well.
