All the programs that I use will open a directory with the "List" view when I try to open a file. I prefer to use the "Details" view, so that requires that I go through the "Views" icon, then select "Details".
Is there a registry setting to change the default "Open Dialog" view to "Details"?

I assume you mean in Windows Explorer? Set your window to display the way that you like and then hold down the control key and close the window. You can also go to Tools / Folder Options / View and click on the "Apply to All Folders" button.

I know exactly what you mean. I always wanted it to be set by the program.
ie. thumbnails for photoshop. Details for pretty much everything else
Only by using 3rd party software

Since all programs seem to have this default view in the "Open File" dialog, I am assuming that there is a registry key somewhere that can change it.ICBM target coordinates:

No reg hacks are able to do it
One I read was to use ctrl/cancel, but that doesn't work
