I want to export a final master copy of my 50i HDV project. I'm using Premiere Pro CS3 (Mac) which does not allow export to tape, so I'm guessing the only good options are exporting to a file. Should I attempt to create an mpeg2 master? What settings? Should I export an HDTV version? Only Quicktime is available, so should I use H.264? 720p? 1080p? I'm confused...as usual. Thank you,

I'd be surprised if HDV tape export isn't an option.

I don't have CS3 here but will look next time I see one. Try asking ina FCP forum.

Hey ed! Thanks! I know, it is strange but for the Mac, no export to tape. I need to decide on some file settings to master this project. Thanks again,

This is how you do it in Vegas.

Then there's direct print to HDV tape under Tools

Good reference. Thanks, ed. It occurred to me that I can export an EDL and transfer the files to another system or same system, different app. Please confirm. Have you done this much? Seems painful. Thanks again,

Can't I use an edit decision list and the captured project mpeg files in another application?

If the other system is a CMX/Grass/Sony online editor. Even then the functions are limited to a specifically defined A/B role with limited mix, wipes and Key (all 1984 tech).

Right. Well, actually, I'll bet my project qualifies, because it's all cuts - one fade. I can't be bothered, it's just one solution I imagined. I just want to export a master file, but I'm not sure about the best settings. Thank you!

You can move the source files and project file to another computer with Premiere CS3 and re-render. The EDL is for moving to an online bay at a post house with a classic edit system like this.

Very amusing. Other apps like Vegas won't accept the EDL and files? Thanks!
