Interesting comment after hearing for a year why Apple has not supported Blu Ray:

I tend to agree with Jobs. HD optical media doesn't have to be the convoluted mess that the Blu-ray developers see for our future.
I now own four Blu-ray disc's and I'm not likely to buy more any time soon because of the expense. Most of the time I will using Netflix for my Blu-ray videos. I'm surprised Sony hasn't tried to ban Blu-ray rentals to increase the sales of the format.
I still want to see a inexpensive large capacity optical disc that I can record anything I want to, and not necessarily HD. -

Hmm I don't know about that. No support at all? Wouldn't you be able to use a mac version of powerdvd ultra for it????
I don't think thats wize to not include high def anything. Even if your against it in principle high def is such a buzz word these days its one more plus you can push on to the public "high def" this "high def" that, etc.....
Maybe in the short term this will give Vista some kind of edge for high end nitche users??Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -

Apple uses 9.5mm drives in their notebooks, and as far as I know there aren't any 9.5mm Blu-ray drives yet, although Panasonic announced one. Even if they wanted to support Blu-ray, there aren't any off the shelf parts they can use for their notebooks.

You can buy an external USB attached Blu-ray drive from (some geezer) in Black and white.. quite a good price...designed for the Apple.
Corned beef is now made to a higher standard than at any time in history.
The electronic components of the power part adopted a lot of Rubycons. -
*sigh* BluRay? Buy an external unit and stop asking for an huge price increase in your new computer (and then you'll be complaining about the cost, right?).

I don't know what the dislike of bluray is. Either buy it or don't. Why bad mouth it? I mean until they start releasing bluray only releases what difference does it make to you? If you don't want high def on disc don't buy it. That simple.....
You can easily get it on demand from cable or satellite or fios. (downside of course is pay per view, limited selection, no bonus features, and usually does not include the original aspect ratio but rather cropped and forced to 1.78:1 to "fill" widescreen tvs). BUt hey do what you want.
Remember hd-dvd died so know for disc based choices its bluray or nothing. If you don't like it don't get it but don't stop other people from enjoying it.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -

High Defintion and it's optical carrier format Blu-ray are awesome to watch. Thats all I care about. I would call it the biggest improvement in video quality since the invention of the first video recorder by Ampex in the mid-fiftees. It is in fact with HiDef, that video has come to maturity, only NOW can video actually compete with it's fellow moving-image-capturer; film.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: change is a difficult beast for some to handle. -

But going from moderately restrictive format (DVD-Video) to a completely f*cked up restricted in any possible way and controlled by 1 corporation format is not progress - it is going back to feudal rules.
Who says HD has to be only on a format controlled by the most greedy corporation that has ever been on earth?
Who dare to tell me I cannot have porn on this format? Specially because they have the gall to prohibit anything on their format (porn supposedly) while they are *the monopolist* after HD-DVD death, they DO deserve to die or be put out of business or at least regulated by governments, judges etc - and I'm not saying that because we need porn, of course not, I say it but because it is against very basic principles of our society, how hard is it to understand? If you don't get it I suggest you watch ie "The People vs Larry Flynt" or read about it.
These are valid questions. First you prohibit the porn, next something else, and in the end we are at mercy of corpocracy soviet style... Thats not how any enterprises in a free market - having a monopoly - should operate. Our govt may be corrupted today, but the governments and politicians don't 'rule' forever, don't forget that. Just by prohibiting porn releases on the format they control this corporation shows what it thinks of its customers and free market LOL. "For god's sake, just give us your moooooneyyyyyy! already" should have been their motto LOL
Anyways by observing HD market you can see it for yourself - HDTV cable flourishes, many people want and buy HDTV television sets, yet not even 1% of them buys into S*ny bullshit disc media (just compare sale figures of HD TVs vs BR players). And I'm sure the cost of Blu discs and players is not the answer - because DVDs 10 years ago were priced the same or even higher back then, yet they were in demand for quite long time until market was saturated.
People are just not that stupid in general
OTOH mere 10 years ago we switched from VHS to DVDs, simply not enough time has passed to 'enforce' another format change. Give it 10 more years and it'll happen for sure, but fortunately this S*ny Blu crap by that time will be in museums next to their MDs and Betas(which, BTW, are fine examples of this corporation's attitude towards its customers - each one of them was also more restrictive than the competition...)
Changes are not difficult.
Forcing people to change into slaves has always been difficult
Albeit some people don't mind if someone else tells them how to live their live basically (eat this not that, watch this not that, buy this not that, think this way not that way...) there is still enough people who use their own brains or at least understand basic concepts our society is built upon, and that's why we still have progress. (/edit: although there are less and less of them obviously, and that's probably the reason why western society is at its progressional end)
