    hey guys,

ive just been recently getting into the .mkv format particularly h.264 so please bare with me.

my problem is i have a .mkv video file with a DTS audio track, i use mkv2vob so i can play video files on my ps3 as my computer does handle the .mkv format that well. i noticed that mkv2vob converts the dts track in ac3 which i understand the ps3 doesnt play dts via streaming. when i play the new converted video file on my ps3 the audio is out of sync by quite at lot atleast 5-10 secs at the beginning and even more near the end. i checked the original mkv file and it seems that the audio is also out of sync but by not as much, my computer doesnt play mkv that well so i cant be 100% sure. ive been trying to fix this problem for a while now with no success,

i used mkvextract to demux the audio track but i notice that audio track is about 4mins shorter then the video stream. but yet mediainfo lists both video and audio streams as being the same length so im not sure which is truly correct... anyways i used a dts2ac3 tool to convert the track to ac3 format and used mkmerge to remux but still has audio problem.

so my question is should i be trying to fix the problem while its in the mkv container or should i trying to fix it after mkv2vob converters it to .mpg?? and is there a some what easy way to fix with a how to guide maybe? i assume a simple delaycut fix then remux will not be suitable for this situation?

thanks for any help you can offer!
    cheers

Well first of all you're not sure if the original MKV is out of sync, but try this,

    MKVExtract> use eac3to to convert DTS>AC3...
Use tsMuxer and Re-mux your video and new ac3, pick M2TS as output format...
Check for sync issues and stream....You may have to change the file extension to .mpg.....I find this method works best for me instead of using MKVtoVOB.. What are you streaming with?

And if your source mkv is out of sync then find another better source.
