I currently have a Phillips DVP5960, which has an USB port and I attach my external hard drive to my PC copy avi files to it and then plug it into the DVD player to watch them.

The trouble is my PC hard drive is gettign full, and I'm getting bored of copying files to the external hard drive which is also getting full ... and is meant to be my backup solution.

I was thining of investing in a network hard drive, putting it next to the TV, wirlessly connecting it to my PC and saving all of my video files onto there. Then plugging the networked hard drive into my DVD player using the USB. Is anyone out there doing this and can confirm it works OK? I'm only mildly techie myself, and I'm a bit concerned I might spend the money and then find out I didn't understand an important limitation of my kit.

    Any help very much appreciated.

If your dvd player is upnp compatible it should work with network drives.

I'm curious, do you have a xbox 360 or ps3? You might be better off networking those directly for an easier time of streaming video (though you'd need to be do it over a wired lan as video suffers over wireless).

No I don't have a gaming system. Chatting to a mate though it looks like this might be my solution - a wireless media centre

and retire the DVD player to the bedroom
