    Hi,

so i'm kinda despaired with the video stuff(why has like every person an own video codec? O_o)

So I have an .MKV with 1 Videostream, 1 Subtitle Stream and 2 Audio Streams.
I want to convert it to MP4(usable with PSP). However I fail at doing that.

There are several problems I've come accross with converters:
    1. Audio and Video not in sync anymore after the conversion(means like you hear what they talk before they even open their mouth)
    2. PSP doesn't recognize the subtitle stream and subtitles weren't coded into the video stream
    3. PSP says "incompatible data" (sometimes even when I choose a special PSP profile for conversion...)
    4. The converter just doesn't support mkv
    5. The converter just says "error"

So any way to fix that? Whats a good video converter that supports most formats etc? How exactly do I avoid that vidoe/audio get out of sync? Any Ideas what subtitle streams are required so the psp recognizes them?

    Another thing:

I have another .MKV that has three subtitles streams(don't know why... all three are german)
In VLC it shows 7 subtitle streams, all marked german and auto selects Stream 4
That stream has a weird green font thats hard to read, Stream 3 shows nothing,
Stream 2 has a good white font, thats nice to read. Stream 1: nothing again.
Stream 6: a even better font
    Stream 7: nothing

When I extract the 3 Subtitle streams with MKVtoolnix I've had 3 .sub files and 3 .idx files (so 1 .sub and 1 .idx for each track). But I hadn't any use for that file format :/ Converting them to .srt kinda failed because the converters I found wanted an .avi and the extracted video stream is .h264.

P.S.: I don't really know anything about that video codec stuff other than it's pretty confusing So many codecs, containers, formats...

I asked around in some PSP Forums, but most of them only say "DL PSP Video 9" , but that prog doesn't really fit the requirements I asked for... so I guessed "maybe I will have more luck in video encoding Forums"

Oh yeah, for the audio out of sync part, I'd prefer to not count milliseconds in order to get it into sync

    What converters have you tried?

I would try Xvid4psp. And you can load external subs and add as permanent / hardcoded subtitles.

I tried Xvid4psp but audio gets out of sync(atleast in the preview) when I set reisze so 480x272. I had no subtitles, on the other file I had double subtitles? o.o And It can't load and which .sub File should I include?
(a small one and a big one at almost the same position, kinda annoying)

Is there any way to add subtitles so the PSP can write them(theres a subtitle option in the video playing mode of the psp but its always grayed out for me, and I don't know if its only for UMD :/

Yeah, I think the option's only for UMD Video discs, if I remember correctly. To get subtitles in the video, you'll probably have to demux them from the MKV and then burn them into the converted video.
If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them?

The weird thing about .mp4 is that there are NO editors out there for it. I wish there were. Whenever i have an .mp4 video for my PSP that i need to edit, i have to convert it back to DivX or XviD, and then use v-dub or something. Then i have to convert it back to .mp4. A good piece of software for fixing sync issues is the Pocket DivX Encoder. It has a little function that will fix sync issues, but it won't handle .mp4, so you have to do the conversion to DivX, and THEN use PDE to fix the sync. I also know that Media Player Classic will fix sync issues. Of course, one of the versions of v-dub will do it as well.

    Good luck!

Well, forget my last posting. I found out that Media Player Classic WILL load in .mp4's, as well as .flv's. Woah! So now, we can fix sync issues with it.

To fix sync issues, go to Play>Audio>Options, and then where it says "Audio Time Shift (ms)", and if i remember right, you input a positive number if the audio is early, and a negative number if the audio is late. If that does the opposite, then do the reverse.

    woops xD

    edit:
is there any way to save it then? I tried "SAve as..." but then it just saved it but didn't alter the sound in the newly saved vid :/ It would be annoying to have to convert everything, then find out the out of sync value, and then convert it again with the fixed value
