i own 1 pc that i use for everything, surfing net, games ripping dvds etc.

I use dvd decrypter to rip out all the files from a dvd 9 also bypassing protection etc unto my HDD. Later i use dvd shrink to shrink the dvd 9 files into a dvd 5 iso file. Then i burn again with decrypter.

My question as above is while using dvd shrink can i use my pc to surf the net, listen to music etc while it is encoding or shrinking????

It is quite fast for my pc. It takes around 5-6 mins for dvd9 movies with many menus etc, if the dvd is straight forward then maybe 1-3 mins.

My pc is a core 2 duo E4400 which has been overclocked to 3.2GHZ. I have 2GB of 800mhz ram overclocked too. I have 3 HDDs totalling 1 terabyte of space.

OKay in the past i had some dvds that lagged or did not play smoothly on my home player. I think they played okay on my pc's own dvd rom drive. I figured it might be cos i burnt my dvds too fast at 16x speed. I have quite a large collection of dvds that i used to burn like around 2 years back at 8x speed cos 16x was not available then.

Therefore i am not sure if dvd shrink or the burn speed was the problem. Recently i encoded movies againa nd burnt my 16x dvds at 8x speed and it played fine on my home player.

ANyway back to the question again sorry for asking so many times as i want to cover all angles. Will using ur pc while it is encoding a video cause problems to the video later during play back???

You should be able to multi task with the PC specs you're posting (BTW, not the same specs in your comp details next to profile).....However I prefer not to,and let the process complete, after all it's only 5 to 9min right?... I personally never burn DVDs over 8x ,and use mainly Verbatim media, only burn with ImgBurn...

I agree with t0nee1. I had once DVD scrambled while burning and other programs running trying to access Internet.
I don not do anything during encode and burn. I even shut all running programs off.

HI yes those specs in my profile were from my old pc which i do not use anymore. Since upgraded. Yes it is quite a short while. The thing is i already have quite a large collection of dvds over 700 so u know its boring having to let the pc do something else while its encoding.

Btw do u advise burning with this imgburn or you do it yourself???? Is it better than dvd decrypter?

DVDDecrypter is using ImgBurn to do burning.
Both are made by Lightning UK.
You Can get new version of ImgBurn. Decrypter was stopped for development.

Encoding, shrinking, no problem. It may slow it down (a very small amount).

It may be helpful to press Ctrl-Alt-Del to pull up the Task Manager, and then Performance.
You can see "CPU usage" If this is pegging at 100%, you can't do much, response will be dead slow. If it's comfortably below that, everything should be smooth.

If anything does go wrong, normally a process will freeze or crash. So you either get a good file or nothing.
Any errors in the files are due to the software, not the speed of the hardware.

However, when burning a disc, if you do something intensive the data flow may be too slow and the burn will be bad.

Hey thanks a lot for this, either a good file or nothing. With this info now i can guess those dvds which could not play back properly on my stand alone player were burnt badly or burnt at too high a speed. Not due to me using my pc while shrinking it dvd shrink. dvd shrink is a good software, not the best obviously but free, thanks to it i have quite a large collection.

Decrypter is old and will not rip new DVD. The author was forced to stop updates, so no luck there.
ImgBurn is regularly updated. New version has little more user friendly start up interface and has support for more burner brands.
