Any idea what I need to get or do or whatever to make this work? (Free tools only if possible, please. Thanks. )

YAMB (demux to raw .h264 and aac)
for video: DGAVCIndex ->AviSynth -> HCEncoder for video
for audio: save to .wav using Winamp in file write mode, or GraphEdit (wavdest + filewriter filters)
for authoring (if you want a free tool): Muxman (previously test a/v delay in MPC)

I got it demuxed but now when I import the video file, I get an error message that DGAVCIndex needs to close. I'm beginning to think I got a bad file, which I'm going to be mad if I did, since it's of a VERY rare program and I spent about five hours downloading it.

Are you sure you checked 'raw stream' (rather than mp4) as demuxing option? In case of video-only in mp4 container DGAVCIndex won't work.

  5. Perhaps your input video and/or audio has errors?

Please be specific in what error messages FAVC and DGAVCIndex are giving you

Are you able to play the video in a directshow player, like MPC, without error? or are there "glitches"?

If it helps, I had to install the newest QuickTime just to view the video. The other programs I have won't even open it.

The error message isn't really anything other than what used to be "Windows has performed an illegal operation" in 95 and 98. Except now it's something like "DGAVCIndex has encountered a problem and needs to close."

Yes, I made sure to check raw streams.

FAVC doesn't really give error messages. It just never gets to the video analysis part.

  7. Your video uses AVC video and AAC audio. You need a proper splitter and codec to play it back. QuickTime includes it's own, but FAVC doesn't rely on QuickTime installed codecs.

If you install haali media splitter, ffdshow (set h264 to "libavcodec" in the video configuration, and set AAC to "libavocdec" in the audio configuration), you should be able to play back in direct show based media players, like MPC

If you can play it back using direct show filters - like in MPC, then FAVC should work, either directly or with an avisynth script.

The other possibility is that the text file is causing problems. You can take it out with YAMB (re-package the .mp4 without the text file)

Another option is to use avidemux to generate DVD compliant MPEG2 stream, then author it yourself using GUIforDVDAuthor, or DVD Author GUI, or DVD Styler etc... (ALL free)

And of course, the possibility of errors still exists.

How do I make the AVS script in DGAVCIndex? The only thing I can find is the "AVS Template," but that doesn't seem to do anything.
