How to connect an infa-red K/M to 2 PCs. One only K/M input with 2xK/B outputs to 2PCs with a switch to select the PC of choice. My monitor is dual input no need for video connection.

That's the best description I can offer for the devise I am looking for, any help appreciated.

  4. does you computer have a built in ir receiver, or did the kb/m come with one? if it's built into the computer you are out of luck and will have to switch to a normal usb/ps2 type kb/m.

The K/M came with its own I/R controller.

  6. then if the ir receiver plugs into a usb port you should be able to plug the receiver into a usb kvm switch instead. no guarantees, so i'd try to find one locally, at a store with a liberal return policy just in case in doesn't work with your k/m.

Thanks for taking time out to help, appreciated. I think I'm looking for a product that does not exist.

I x K/M IN - 2 OUT, switch to select K/M of choice, sounds simple.

  8. I really do not understand the confusion.

Infrared does not have Wires, hence it is also WireLess. Same as the radio type.

This IR receiver, it is attached to the PC, is it not? Does it use PS-2 plugs or USB? All you have to do is get a KVM switch that has the corresponding inputs and outputs. If in doubt, many now have ps-2, USB, video, and audio, as well. You don't have to use the video if you don't want to, however this would require 2 switching operations, one on the KVM and one on the monitor. Works fine, I'm using such a setup right now.

If you are looking for just a KM switch, such a device may not exist; However, a KVM wherin you simply don't use the video portion would serve the same purpose, and the cost is minimal.

    Hi Nelson,

The infa red receiver has PS2 K/M cables, only the K/M is wireless.

I feel absolutely stupid, be kind, please leave it there. There are many 2 port switches available, problem was, I really did not understand how they work.

    Thanks to all.

  12. Didja smack yourself in the forhead?

Happens all the time, sometimes you get stuck in the middle of the problem and need to see both ends.
