Hi everyone!
I am adding a 42" LCD screen to the kitchen area of my store for showing "media" ie photos, video etc of the menu and daily specials.
What device can I use to serve the media to the TV? Yes, I can create DVD's and play them on the TV via a portable player but the store is 24/7 and I am looking for a more digital type of server.
A screen is not required. Lowest cost is best!![]()
Any ideas?

One option is to get a portable media player (enclosure) and hard drive
e.g. ~$50

and a 40GB IDE hd for ~$50

or you can get 160GB for about $20 more (better $/GB ratio)

If you look around ebay you can probably get 1/2 price. Search for "media player" or "portable media enclosure" something like that -
You want to look into one of those TV that has SD slot. This type of TV can put up a slide show from the pictures in the SD card.

I think some of the new Sony HDTVs can play stills and video from a flash or USB device.
No, it was Samsung: https://forum.videohelp.com/topic353669.html#1875611
I'd just encode everything as 1920x1080 h.264/AAC MP4. You typically don't have a lot of control over what plays on these types of TVs. You may not be able to mix a bunch of photos and videos and have the TV rotate through them all or play them randomly. -
Hmmmm! TV w built in not bad idea but we are looking for lowest cost TV so we need a Media player to attach.
Thank You & Have a great Day! :)
