    Hi everyone!

I am adding a 42" LCD screen to the kitchen area of my store for showing "media" ie photos, video etc of the menu and daily specials.

What device can I use to serve the media to the TV? Yes, I can create DVD's and play them on the TV via a portable player but the store is 24/7 and I am looking for a more digital type of server.

A screen is not required. Lowest cost is best!

    Any ideas?

  2. One option is to get a portable media player (enclosure) and hard drive

    e.g. ~$50
    http://www.ncixus.com/products/30628/HM2%2DSU2TV/Mediasonic/

    and a 40GB IDE hd for ~$50
    http://www.ncixus.com/products/27239/ST940815A/Seagate/

or you can get 160GB for about $20 more (better $/GB ratio)

If you look around ebay you can probably get 1/2 price. Search for "media player" or "portable media enclosure" something like that

  3. You want to look into one of those TV that has SD slot. This type of TV can put up a slide show from the pictures in the SD card.

Not a bad idea but we are looking for something less bulky...the TV will be mounted on wire from the ceiling (15' high) and hang over the kitchen area. Does that make sense?
It does not need huge storage...I doubt it would ever need more then 4gb...
Thank You & Have a great Day! :)

  6. I think some of the new Sony HDTVs can play stills and video from a flash or USB device.

    No, it was Samsung: https://forum.videohelp.com/topic353669.html#1875611

I'd just encode everything as 1920x1080 h.264/AAC MP4. You typically don't have a lot of control over what plays on these types of TVs. You may not be able to mix a bunch of photos and videos and have the TV rotate through them all or play them randomly.

I don't think you're going to find anything smaller than the earlier mentioned Mediasonic device that will meet your requirements.
