slow rendering MPG2 (mainconcept encoder) 2+ hrs for 15 min total video, using MPG clips from digital camera, no effects.

what should the settings for dynamic RAM and number of threads rendering be set to in the options/preferences for any project?

    my specs are

    athlon xp single core 2.2GHz
    1.5GB DDR400
ati radeon 9800 pro 128mb video card
wd 7200 rpm 16mb cache drive

i know its not a fast system by any stretch, but does the times above sound right? ?

  2. Is your encoder profile the same as that of the source?

i dont understand your question.. can you explain how i would check?

im using MPG clips (from digital camera) trying to render them to MPG2 (DVD Arcitect template) so I can burn to DVD.

  4. There's a couple of things you need to check/confirm.

    1. Are the clips from the camera MPEG-1 or MPEG-2? If you are using a digital still camera, odds are that the clips are MPEG-1. If this is the case, it will take a long time to decompress the MPEG-1 and then recompress as MPEG-2.

    2. If the clips are MPEG-2 then it is possible to make the rendering much faster. You have to ensure the output parameters of the MPEG-2 (for DVD) are the same as the input. These include picture dimensions, audio compression, the GOP sequence etc. All of these can be seen in the compression settings.

It sounds as if your source is MPEG-1 though. It will take some time. Nevertheless, 2hrs seems a lot. Check encoder options for things like quality, single or multiple pass, motion searching. All these things can influence encoder time.

It would help if you add detail for model camera, settings for recording (e.g. movie size, quality setting), etc.

Digtal camera files are typically highly compressed MJPEG in an avi or mov wrapper. If MPeg, it is likely some form of MPeg 4.
