I've downloaded a lot of small 70 or 150 megabyte TV shows with (xvid asd) appended to their titles. What does that mean? Why use (xvid asd) instead of a standard avi or mov file?

Load one of these video files into the program GSpot and/or MediaInfo and then post the results here. For GSpot just take a screenshot.

This explains how to do that ---> CLICK HERE

If using MediaInfo put it into TEXT MODE and copy/paste that here.

Only then can we see the attributes of the file(s) in question.

Also please edit your title to read XVID instead of SVID

Sort of what jagabo said. Not sure what 45tripp said.

The videos are from a Polish group of recoders. Uses regular Xvid two pass and very low bitrates. Probably suitable for cell phones and the like.

    Wow. Negative.

Well I just opened the file (Heroes S02.E02) and the audio sounds just fine. Like listening to FM radio. The video sometimes pixelates, but certainly no worse than some channels I've seen on over-the-air DTV.

So what does the "asd" mean?

  8. It's the name of the release group. Why don't you ask them? This thread will be locked soon.

I'm not much impressed with KVCD's 'facsimile' of VCD or DVD formats, either. JMO. Somewhat off topic, but I recently watched a 'professional restore' of a 1930's cowboy movie. It looked like they use a cheap 'soft focus' lens. (Vaseline over a neutral density filter. ) Unless the original was really flawed, they destroyed any quality that might have remained.

I can tolerate some low quality video if it's planned to be viewed on a low res display. But these days with more higher res displays available, it's a shame to mess up what may have been a decent quality video just for the sake to make it as small as possible.

    Sorry for the rant.

And I'm afraid jagabo is correct. My mistake. TV shows, recorded or transfered from the net are likely copyrighted and if so, would be a violation of our rules to discuss unless the original owner agrees. This thread is locked unless the OP can show that these are not copyrighted and are not Warez.
