    magic,
it all comes down to magic....

i'd suppose you could use something in the one click direction.

    favc, dvdflick,
    and for payware, convertxtodvd

which will all take you to an authored dvd.

yes you can keep the working files with all I believe.

if you're goig into dvd authoring as a separate
you're open to more encoding tools too.
depending on how deep you wish to go
progressively moving towards the raw engines behind the guis.

    p.s
    i don't strip 8)

FAVC. Tick Keep Working Files. Process. The elementary streams will be in the working folder, in a subfolder calld DVDn (where n is a number).

  7. but in favc, there is no control for the user to determine the bitrate. it is 4000 at the minimum. though i selected 1500 it reverted to 4000. i am unable to process a av1 file with 1500,352*288,25fps,pal,mpeg-2 with 192 ac3.(ofcource there is no problem for ac3 192,, option is there. for the 4000 bitrate it takes a long time than TMPGEnc and the file size is huge compared to TMPGEnc.for an av1 file of size 700MB,when doneas MPEG-2, ,it is more than 2 GB(FAVC) instead a mere 950 MB(TDA). did i went wrong in making some options?

No, you don't set the bitrate. FAVC does this for you buy looking at the running time of the movies and the amount of space you want to fill. If you have multiple movies, add them all so FAVC can work out the correct bitrate.

if you want to encode to a very specific size, learn how to use HCEnc manually and you can set it to use whatever bitrate you need.

I really don't understand what you are trying to do, but converting a 700MB AVI to a 900MB mpeg-2 file will result is very low quality unless the original AVI had a stupidly high bitrate.

  9. i will explain guns1inger,
i want to convert these wmv files to mpeg-2 files with around 1500 video bitrate and 192 ac3 2 ch so that i can include some four files of such type in a single layer dvd. i agree that there won't be much quality but i am satisfied with that. i use tda and dvd lab for the execution of this. and at the end i use imgburn to burn them into a dvd disk

Put all four titles into FAVC at the same time. It will encode them to fit and you will have four sets of elementary streams to work with at the end of the process. There is no reason to encode them one at a time.

  11. the reason for encoding one by one is that if i am doing one by one it takes less time for conversion. and if power goes i need not start from the very begining. and , it gives freedom to me as to how many media files to be included in a single layer disk.

Your reasons don't make much sense, but each to their own.

You need to learn how to encode properly by hand with a bitrate calculator. There are plenty of guides for the various encoders that will take you through how to set them up.
