I did a little test recording of a program on a public tv station using my DVR. I burned the file onto DVD and copied it onto my pc. I demuxed the vobs to an m2v and an ac3 file. I converted the m2v to xvid avi and the picture looks great. The problem lies with the audio. When I simply try to mux in the ac3 stream using VirtualDubMod and play it back in MPC or WMP, there is no audio. File properties in the players say an ac3 audio stream in present.
Then I tried transcoding the audio to mp3 using BeLight and the result was a very jerky audio.
Does anyone have an idea what I could be doing wrong?
The file properties according to MPC are - Audio: Dolby AC3 48000Hz 6ch 256Kbps [AC-3]
I've uploaded the file here: http://driber.net/os/VTS_01_1.ac3

Your .ac3 file is atypical and i think is missing header information, that's why most audio applications will fail
You can use eac3to to convert to .wav and then any encoder to convert to .mp3 (e.g. I used LameXP)
Try avimux-gui to mux audio to your avi

minidv2dvd, that program didn't work for me. when I click the button to process, it does absolutely nothing
poisondeathray, I used eac3to to convert from .ac3 to .ac3 and that fixed the problem. I muxed the new .ac3 with the video in VirtualDubMod and it works perfect. thanks!
btw, the mp3 you posted is also jerky, or is it just me?Driber.net webmaster -
Gspot says it's a vob. With audio only in this case, wrongly given the ac3 extension.
DVD "VOB" format
MPEG-2 Program Stream << { 1 aud }
Sys Bitrate: 10080 kb/s VBR
FFmpeg says:
Input #0, mpeg, from 'F:/VTS_01_1.ac3':
Duration: 00:01:45.24, start: 0.235211, bitrate: 309 kb/s
Stream #0.0[0x80]: Audio: ac3, 48000 Hz, stereo, s16, 256 kb/s
