I have made a video with Tegrity for teaching a class. Unfortunately the audio was recorded too low.

There are several asf files, and i found one that is audio only. I want to amplify the audio in this asf file, but have not been able to find a solution.

    Thanks

Not very easy because it's an ASF file and they're more painful to edit.

    The basic steps are:

    Convert ASF to WAV

    Apply Gain/Normalization to WAV

    Convert WAV to ASF

    Thanks for the help.

I was able to convert to a wave using mplayer as described in https://forum.videohelp.com/topic281724.html

I used Ubuntu, so I just typed sudo apt-get install mplayer instead of downloading from the site.

I'm using Audacity now, and I see that I can adjust the gain easily, but I'm trying to reduce the noise now.

I guess I should just try different settings, until I'm satisfied with the quality.

Hopefully mplayer will convert back from WAV to ASF as easily.

Well, it all worked except the audio file didn't really do anything; Tegrity just put that file there for fun.

Anyways, I've found that I can use AVS Video converter to amplify the file. Since I'm using the freeware version, I think I'm going to end up with a watermark on my video unfortunately...

I might try to use mplayer to convert to an easier format to deal with and try that if the watermark is too obnoxious.

EDIT: Well AVS doesn't seem to be able to output files as ASF files...

EDIT2: I forgot to mention that now the ASF file is both audio and video, before I was only dealing with audio and AVS will not work with audio only ASF

Hence the caveats... Windows Media files can really be a PITA

    Yeah, it sure is

Well, I spent some time in the mplayer IRC and they helped me out quite a bit. Unfortunately, mplayer ASF files will not play in Windows Media Player, but they told me that ASF is really close to WMV.

I ended up using AVS, even though the watermark IS obnoxious, and saving as a WMV. At that point, I just changed the extension to ASF, and it seems to work for me.

I have some noise in the video, but it is louder now, so that's good enough for tonight.
