Question for you all...
I wonder why all the messing around with SVCD format, when DVD is more accepted! So, I've been looking into miniDVD format (so I don't have to spend trillion$ on a DVD-R and media for it)... Basically I see the only difference between SVCD and DVD is resolution, since audio can be tweaked, and bitrate can be tweaked with both formats.
Apparently, many players don't play them, or I guess on some it depends on the media involved (some CD-R brands work, others don't). I think this is the case with my Apex 500W, it has "miniDVD", but crossed out (I assume that's what this means, I'll just have to try).
Now my open forum question... who's tried this, and what players work? I'm especially interested in specific brands, and the Playstation 2 (that would be TOO cool)...
Thanks...

Most DVD players will play SVCDs if you find the right media.
Most DVD players will not play miniDVDs irregardless of media.
The problem is how the DVD players firmware works. Usually, it looks at media first.
If it sees DVD media, it expects to see a DVD.
If it sees CD based media, it expects to see a VCD/SVCD or audio CD. That is, the DVD player no longer expects to see a DVD so the relevant software for playing the DVD won't be loaded.
The only a few confirmed (distinct) players that play back miniDVDs -- the portable Aiwa models and the Afreey clones.
