Is it possible in Vegas 6 to make a title an exact amount? Manually doing it is a bit tedious.

I assume by title you mean a still graphic image ?

If so, you can set the default length of any still image in Tools -> Preferences -> Editing (Tab)

I think you meant Options->. In any case, under the Editing Tab of Prefs, there doesn't seem to be one specific setting. I see things like Quick Fade, and New Still Image Size, which I have set to 0.200. If that's it, then I'm getting 10 seconds instead of 0.200 when I pull out the black Text (Solid Background) from the Media Gen.

Yes, Options - my bad. In 7 (which is what I have here) there is a setting called New Still Image Length, which is the one you want to change. It is there in 7, perhaps it was added in that version. You can't set the length of a solid colour media from the media generator pool. Those settings are for jpegs dragged from the explorer window.

For media created with Media generator you enter the length when you drop the media on the timeline. The settings window opens automatically, and it has a field for the length. Set it there and you don't have to drag it on the timeline to get the right length.

If I drag with the right -button, and release the button, it shows a small menu. One of the choices is Span Across Time. I don't see anyway to specify an amount. Maybe 6just doesn't have the ability.

When you first drag a solid colour media asset to your timeline, a VideoFX window should open with the properties for the asset. At the top of this screen Frame Size (X x Y) and Length. You can set an exact length here, right down to the frame. If this doesn't open for you for whatever reason, you can always set the length either by clicking on the Generated Media icon on the clip, or by right-clicking and selecting Properties.

Either way, you will still have to drag the clip to match this length you have typed in, however there is no guess work involved if you have snapping turned on.
