    hi there,
been trying to find a solution for this without any luck yet:
    ladies, gents,
I ripped my home dvd video (shot w with a canon, miniDVD-RW recorder) using ROXIO media import v9. The video is imported as mpeg or .mpg
Problem when I playback the imported media in wmp: audio starts in sync then progessively gets out of sync (audio gets faster) as the video progesses...
Playing back in other players has the same problems...
I cannot rip the videos again using another software since I dont keep my old vids. So now I am stuck with a collection of some 30 ripped videos where the audio is out of sync...
Why does this happen in the first place???
How can this be corrected? And which steps do I need to take? I am a newbie so not familiar with video editing.

    Hope you can help.
    thanks

First mistake, and quite a biggy. Always keep your originals.

    using ROXIO media import v9
Second mistake. I would not even install Roxio software on my machines, given a choice.

Why does this happen in the first place???
Don't know why it happened to you without a whole lot more information. What was the source format - PAL or NTSC ? What format is it now ? The usual causes for audio sync problems are bad format conversion and data corruption.

    How can this be corrected?
If this is an audio drift then the audio must now be longer or shorter than the video. If this is the case you have to demux the audio, and change the speed at which it plays so that the length of the audio matches the length of the video. Audacity, Audition, Goldwave and Sound Forge can all change the speed of audio. You just have to get it into a suitable format.

    guns1nger,

    - since roxio is not an option for you, which do you recomend?

    - source formal was PAL and now PAL as well as you can see; here some info on the ripped dvd now being an mpeg as follows:

Nominal bit rate : 9400 Kbps

    Height : 576 pixels
    Display aspect ratio : 4/3
    Frame rate : 25.000 fps

any more specific clue as to why this happened and how to avoid in future? so are these still the same steps to align the audio? or a better quicker way possible?
