mpeg sync problems after importing dvd

ladies, gents,
I shot my video with a canon DC22, miniDVD recorder. I then capture the 8cm DVD-RW in my laptop using ROXIO media import v9. The video is imported as mpeg.
Problem when I playback the imported media in wmp: audio starts in sync then progessively gets out of sync (audio gets faster) as the video progesses...
Playing back in other players has the same problems...

How can this be corrected? And which steps do I need to take? I am a newbie so not familiar with video editing. How can I avoid this in the future?

I would try another tool like tmpgenc dvd author 3 and import the dvd. It can do basic editing and output to mpg. Or if you want advanced editing(with transistions etc) you might wanna try mpeg video wizard.

Or if you just need a mpg from the dvd then try vob2mpg on the dvd and see if it works better then roxio.

thanks baldrick but this does not help me, the problem is that I do not keep any old home DVDs since i use just a few DVD-RWs and usually overwrite them. So now I have some 35 .mpg videos (each about 30mins long) in my laptop and they are all of sync, as described. How can this be fixed?

In case the problem is in constant time shift, a good tool for correcting it is Womble MVW. Demux mpegs using DGIndex and import the separated tracks to MVW timeline. From right click on each track the 'location and duration' tab is accessible where you can adjust location with frame accuracy by entering numbers in time inits, frame # or time code, thus adjusting relative positions of video/audio in single or multiple (planned for joining) files. Output is always a multiplexed mpeg.

In case audio is shorter or longer than video, synch it in 2 points using MVW (in the beginning, then in the end). By difference in audio locations for those sync points calculate the audio length wanted, then use SoundForge's Time Stretch function for correcting audio length.

I do it in the following way:

1. Rip with DVD Decrypter
2. If I don't need further edit, I open the ripped files with TMPGENC Mpeg Editor and save them as an mpeg.
2b. If I need to add some effects, I use Mpeg Video Wizard and import the vobs
2c. I export to mpeg from Mpeg Video Wizard
3. I author with tmpg dvd author
4. I test on a sofware player
5. I burn on DVD RW and test it on my hadware player
6. If OK, I burn to a good dvd
7. I watch all, if Ok, then I delete the sources.

I do the same kind of way for mini dv files. (steps 1 and 2 are just a little differents, the rest is the same)
