If you want menus you have to author the with Divx Author or Tmpgenc DVD Author 3 or 4 with Divx authoring. Then you need a player that is Divx Ultra certified. A standard divx certified player will ignore the menus and just give you a list of files as it would for any standard disc of avi files. The authoring process is not as robust as DVD authoring, and frankly, the small vanity value over a list of file names on a disc simply isn't enough for me to pursue it as a standard process. Also, the authoring process appears to be a very slow one.

  4. i must ask you one more thing. do you mean that divx format is low quality compared to normal dvd?

  5. Depends on the settings/encoder. You can create movies in divx format with better quality than normal dvds, but also much worse...

  6. Hehe, true, but if he's talking about a typical DivX AVI he's downloaded with an entire movie in that 680 MB, then the answer's yes, that divx format is low quality compared to normal dvd.

sumeshkri, to turn your AVIs into DVDs, use a program such as FAVC, DVDFlick, or AVI2DVD. You may wind up using the HCEnc encoder instead of TMPGEnc. I don't know which of those programs, if any, support the use of TMPGEnc as the encoder.

  7. thanks a lot for the suggestions.
manono, do you suggest that using HCEnc is better choice?
i have to put more number of divxAV1i files into the dvd before it is converted to dvd. As u suggested HCEnc will convert the av1 file into a dvd(vob files? ).
then what is the role of ohter softwares? are they authoring softs?
    have a nice day.

  8. The 3 programs I mentioned are front ends for other programs that encode, convert the audio if necessary, and author. I don't use any of them, but I believe HCEnc is the encoder of choice, or should be.
do you suggest that using HCEnc is better choice?
Yes, I do. They all use some MPEG-2 encoder or other. The MPEG-2 encoding is just one of the things that has to be done to convert an AVI to DVD.

You could also have a look at convertxtodvd

It will very easily do what you want with menus, and convert those AVI's back to DVD, but the quality is lower than using a true encoder like HCEnc, but saying that until things improve or I find a better method I still use convertxtodvd
