All,
I'd like to buy a Bluetooth speaker (Sony SRS-BT100) that I could mount in my kitchen with the only wire being the power cable. From there I'd like to stream audio from my PC's hard drive; however, I'm not sure how this works. Is there a way to get the MP3 files stored on my computer to transmit to a Bluetooth speaker, and how can I do this? I'd prefer not to have to fork out the cost to buy a Bluetooth-equipped MP3 player, so any help/guidance on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks/hawkeyeJP

I haven't really used Bluetooth that much, but my understanding is it's for very short ranges, maybe ten feet at the most. Someone here may have better info. I would make sure your set up would work at longer distances before I would commit to a purchase. Some newer laptops have Bluetooth capability, but not sure any towers do unless they have it on the motherboard or you have a add-on card.

	hmmmm....
I'm very intrigued by this idea. I've been trying to come up with a way to get music in the backyard/patio, but I don't want to run wiring above the rafters (especially since we have recently had about 16" of blow-in insulation put up there!)."To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research." - Steven Wright

Thanks for the replies thus far. From what I've read, Bluetooth range is 10 meters, or 30 feet. That's more than enough for my needs. I know you can get a Bluetooth USB dongle for the PC, but I don't know how to get MP3 files to stream via that dongle from my PC's hard drive to the wireless Bluetooth speaker.

Is there a way to do this???

I just bought a gl-bsp-6230 BlueTooth stereo speaker from frys for $18.99. They were clearing them out. They were normally $99 or something. Anyhow, I bought it so I could take it to my Softball practice so the girls could listen to music while they practice. Of course this is if they were giving me a good practice. I play music from my Voyager cell phone. Anyhow, I will let you know in a few minutes how it does from my PC dongle in the kitchen.
