    Or is it possible to convert it to AVI in a lossless way?

    The file is over 2GB and AVIdemux2 is using too much memory to open the file that I have to kill it. Maybe avidemux2 is not the right tool? What's the difference b/w avidemux and avidemux2?

    editing is limited right now if it's h264 video (not frame accurate)

    but you can convert to uncompressed or lossless compressed video (e.g. huffyuv), then edit

    More to the point, mkv is not an edit friendly container. Do not expect cuts to be reflected in all assets, such as subtitles and the other associated crap that can be shoved into the mkv box
