  1. I'm using MacBook with Leopard

    PROCEDURE:
1.- I use Imovie08 to edit my DV files.
2.- I send them to GarageBand to add chapters.

    QUESTION:
Is there any video format I can export my DV files to, that can be able to do the following?

1.- Play in my Mac with Quicktime
    2.- Play in a PC
3.- Burn to a CD or DVD as data and be played in a standalone DVD player
4.- Copy to a Memory Card or USB memory and be played in a standalone DVD player
5.- Be able to edit later with iMovie, GarageBand, etc...
6.- Have acces to chapters in all of the previus.
    7.- Preview with Leopard's Quicklook.

This is what I think I know:

    With .mov files I can't do 3 and 4.
    With .mp4 files I can't do 3 and 4.
With a DivX, xViD or mpg file I can't do 6 and 7. Everything else downloading the apropiate codecs.
With DVD I can't do 3, 4, 5 (without converting to another format) and 7.

Although it would be nice if a magic, universally editable and playable format existed, there is no such thing, as Baldrick says. Here are some comments on your enumerated list:

    1) Lots of multimedia support in QT. No serious problem there.
    2) QT runs on a PC; 1) is a subset of 2). No serious problems there.
    3) Standalone DVD players will play .... DVDs. Not data discs. Some players are Divx certified, and can play a limited range of data discs that have movies encoded in that format. But standalone DVD players are designed to play DVDs! Most players will also play VCDs, but those are not data discs either. So this item alone kills your dream of universality. But there's more.
    4) see 3)
    5) Editability in iMovie implies the following formats: DV, DV Widescreen, HDV 1080i (25 and 30 fps), HDV 720p (25 and 30 fps), MPEG 4 (Simple Profile). None of these is supported generally by standalone DVD players.
    6)... Etc.

So you see why Baldrick's terse answer is quite profoundly true.
