  1. Hi, how come I can't burn my 759Mb xvcd mpeg file to a 80 min cd when I read everywhere that 80 min cds can hold 800 Mb of vcd content instead of the usual 700Mb? I'm using tscv to author my vcd's I've done a few perfectly working vcds but never exceeded 650 Mb on 74 cd nor 700Mb on 80 min cds 'till I decided to try burning this 759Mb on an 80 min cd without success. Please help

  2. um....what makes you think a 700MB/80 Minute disc will hold more than 700MB/80 Minutes??

  3. t0nito, you can fit those amounts onto cd's if they are burned in VCD format (as oppossed to regular data format). I am not familiar with tscv, I always use Nero and I've actually got up to 804MB onto an 80-minute cd.

STLBoy23: The 80 mins refer to (S)VCD and Audio...
Audio and DVD average at 10MB per minute so 80 min = 800 meg Audio/Video... (74 min = 740 meg)
    That's why =)

t0nito: Are you burning directly from TSCV or using another program to burn..?
I'd recommend to get a cue/bin file from TSCV and author with Nero (Can be done...)
Just make sure that in the cue file the "file.bin" contains the full path...

Ex: The file is in d:\file.bin
The cue should say "d:\file.bin" instead of the standard "file.bin"

    I hope it helps =)

  5. Yes I burn directly from tscv, I also tried making the vcd from nero with standard compliant off since it's a XVCD but it the problem precists. I haven't tried burning the cue file created with tscv though but I'll give it a try.

  6. Ok, this is odd. It says the image is 878 Mb (87 min) how come? If the mpg is only 759 Mb?

  7. try fireburner, even tho nero now has CUE sheet support I still stick with Fireburner when burning my TSCV images.

    Ok, try this:

    1. Run TMPGEnc.
    2. select File--->MPEG_Tools.
    3. select Merge & Cut.
    4. click on the Add button and load your MPEG movie.
    5. Choose MPEG-1 Video-CD (non-standard) for Type.
    6. High light the your MPEG movie on the File Window.
    7. click on the edit button.
    8. click on the "{" button.
    9. Side the slider bar on the bottom of the edit screen to the end of your movie.
    10. click on the "}" button.
    11. give a name to the output file (you could put it anywhere using the browse button.)
    12. click on the run button. When it is done, you can burn the movie as an XVCD using Nero and it should fit on the CD-R without any problem.

The reason why your file is bigger than the MPEG file is that it may have been "Padded" with a bunch of 0.

Hope this is of some help.
    Webster.

P.S. Additional info. on how to use TMPGEnc can be found at: http://www.vcdhelp.com/tmpgenc.htm

Brother. Hey I tried everything to get an XVCD to play on my Sony CE600. Guess what..... your tips worked. Now I just can't understand how this method works. I merge as a non-compliant, but I can burn as a VCD compliant.

I wonder if that method works for SVCDs, except burning as a non-compliant. Since my player doesn't recognize them.

I usually have to mux & demux as (non-compliant) then burn as a non-compliant.

    Thanks Again,

    Oberkfell

  10. Well your tip worked for the Pinoy2201s XVCD(NTSC) (MPEG-1 352x240 29.97fps CQ_VBR 100, Layer-2 44100Hz 128kbps) template but not for Sefys NTSC Basic (MPEG-2 352x240 29.97fps CQ_VBR 50, Layer-2 44100Hz 224kbps) template.

I just can't get this sucker to burn correctly. It either looks good w/no sound or its blocky. I mean really....... blocky w/no sound.

    I can get Pinoy2201s SVCD(NTSC) (MPEG-2 480x480 29.97fps VBR 1580kbps, Layer-2 44100Hz 224kbps) to burn in a non-compliant format, after muxing & demuxing (non-compiant VCD).

    Go Figure.

    Damn Sony.

  11. Webster: I'm trying that merge & cut thing as non-standard right now, thank you. Can you or someone explain what's padding? I noticed in the log file some thing like: "video will be padded on the fly - hope it's ok with you..." or something like that. What does it mean?

  12. I am curious about this too. I have an 845MB mpg (xvcd) file, and when I run it thru Tmpgenc mpeg-tools merge/cut WITHOUT actually cutting anything (noncompliant vcd), it ends up about 765MB and looks the same. Where did the other 80MB go?

I'm glad it worked out for you.
Additional info. on padding can be found here:

The second link contains info on SVCD padding.

    Webster.

P.S. oberkfell, I haven't try playing with SVCD format yet. I've no need for it. But maybe the reason it does not work have something to do with the variable bits rate in Sefy's setting (too low perhap??)

  15. oberkfell, the tip didn't work on my template because it is not MPEG1, it is MPEG2, therefor you must use the SuperVCD/MPEG2 setting when multiplexing.
