Here's the situation. I doing a website and need to get some pictures taken. My Sister-in-law has really good prosumer Nikon DSLR and she knows how to use it fairly well. She knows how to frame a shot. Knows about getting the right lighting to some degree, overall she takes pretty good pictures. Well above average for a someone with no training.
We're going to do a shoot for the website, probably take 6 to 8 hours as we will be going from the store to a home to also take some pictures of them working.
So the question is what would you think is a decent wage to pay her for this type of work. I was thinking at least $150 to $200. Doesn't matter to me as I'm not paying for it but I don't want to rip customer off nor do I want to shortchange her.
What would a low grade pro charge for this? I really have no idea..

I know A wedding Shoot can cost between $1000-3000 for the entire day. I would say atleaset $300 plus food and transportation costs for the trip. Also don't forget to give the Website some kind of Document that they own the Photos after she shoots the Photos. Good Luck

$150-$200 sounds way too low to me. But these things really depend on your area and clients. People value services differently. I know this sounds racist but that is one reason I hate dealing with my own people (Mexicans), they do not value photography at all and I've always had problems dealing with them in terms of cost (there was even one that I was never paid for, so they're not getting any photos for their use until I get that but I will continue to use them for my own purposes).
So get that money up front. His name was MackemX

You get the phone book, call 3 photographers, get the daily fee plus expenses. You now have a cost basis for a pro.
Then you decide on the photographer - either one of the pros at the going rate or you save your client money by using your sister-in-law at a nominally lower rate.
Your ass is covered because you have justified your costs. -
Well thanks for the business advice but I've doing the business thing for a while now, quite successfully I might add for may years.
I just want to know opinions on what it's worth.

she's you sister-in-law -- just ask her how much she wants.

I don't mix business with personal things. You have to keep them seperate. I've been bitten too many times. You give a deal to one friend and the next thing you know they all want a deal...
