Very... slowly... working... out... how... to... do... stuff...

    *sigh*

I have about seven minutes of footage that I was planning to upload to YouTube, but my usual procedure with such things is to add a title card or three, to the beginnings and ends of videos. No tangible reason, it is just what I am comfortable with. Problem is, I have no idea how to do this in iMovie. What I used to do in Windows Movie Maker (blech) was to create a JPEG file in Corel Paint Shop Pro and import that, then add it to the timeline before pasting in a WAV file for music. The procedure to do this in iMovie appears inobvious, or just hidden.

I shudder to think what I am going to do about ripping DVDs and cutting that footage into chunks.

Titles are built into iMovie. You may have the title appear "over" the video or over black before the video (or after the video). In the "over black" case, iMovie renders all the frames as an independent clip. In the case of "over the video", iMovie combines the length of the title clip with the same length of the video and renders that as a separate clip.

The actual process for doing a title varies depending on which version of iMovie you are using. If you have a new Mac with iMovie'08 (version 7.x), I'll suggest you download iMovieHD (version 6.x) as it is both easier to use and much more powerful. You must have iMovie 7 installed in order to install the earlier version of the app.
