Hi, I have been having trouble with my DVD burnings lately. Its been fine up to now, but all of a sudden everytime I burn something, about halfway through the burn will fail. I get this message.

At first I thought nothing of it, but I get this over and over again. I thought my burner must be busted, but I'm wondering why it always happens halfway through, I guess it could still be my burner, but I want to make sure. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Probably using cheap discs. What are you burning on?

na, i'm using Ritek and they've never failed me before. Plus I'm burning them on an older computer I have and they're doing fine, although the burning is very very slow.

RITEK is considered crappy dvd media to use which is why you're having problems. Use IMGBURN instead of DVD DECRYPTER to burn your dvd media. LightningUK is the author for both of those programs. DVD DECRYPTER is no longer updated. Buy VERBATIM or TAIYO YUDEN dvd media or suffer with your failed burns. What's the brand of your dvd burner? Maybe it's time for a new dvd burner which is inexpensive these days. Just my 2 cents!

Try using Imgburn (free) to burn instead of DVD Decrypter. Here's a link to it's info and download page on this website.

Another free software upgrade you should consider is to rip using DVDFab HD Decrypter which is also available here for download. If nothing else, it will give you the capability to rip the newest releases and is fully compatible with DVD Shrink. Additionally, you should consider changing media; best results are usually not realized using Ridata. Most of those who post regarding burning issues recommend Verbatim (search for those made in Singapore or Taiwan) or Taiyo Yuden. Finally, you can check for any available firmware update for your burner using Imgburn.

If the changes in software and media don't solve your problem, it's almost certainly time for a new burner. Newegg consistently offers 18x and 20x burners for under $25.00, some with free shipping.

Actually I'll keep you updated if anything happens, but Imgburn seems to be working atm. Kinda weird how all of a sudden DVD Decrypter just stopped working but watever. Thanks a lot man, really helped. Btw, I've never ever had a problem with Ritek

Good to hear that IMGBURN works for you.
In a few months/years try getting those RITEK discs to read the files correctly when you wanna rip them again.
They may fail after period of time.

You've been warned. Please don't waste our time 6 months from now posting about how your burns no longer can be read and asking what to do about it. I have a friend who like you uses the cheapest crap he can find for discs and his burns are bad from the moment they are burned. A few times a year he sends me a disc of old TV shows that aren't available anywhere on DVD and the first thing I have to do is to copy his disc to better media. I get read errors on EVERY disc he sends me and I have to tell DVD Decrypter multiple times to try again and eventually it will read the entire disc. It really gets old. We'll see if you are still laughing about how clever you are later.

umm... dood, this is my first time posting here in like 6 years about a problem. So if a disc doesn't read, it doesn't read, and i never said i was clever. So don't put words in my mouth, thanks.

  11. When I started burning DVDs, about four years ago, I tried a number of cheap brands, most of which nobody here would recommend. I haven't had any issues with them. I continue to monitor these questionable discs, awaiting some sign of failure, but I haven't noticed anything yet. They are stored at constant temperature, low humidity, and in the dark, just like photographic film (what?), which may help.
