I just bought a Canon HV30 and I've been capturing some video into Premiere CS3 to test it out. Now, I have no idea how to export this video or into what format. For the moment I want to be able to export into DivX and into YouTube (in good quality, high if possible).

I'm totally lost as to what codecs I need or have to use. I need some guidance here and I don't know where to start. Can any one help me out?

You do your editing on the timeline within Premiere. You then export the timeline. You can either save it to an avi (Make Movie) or export it to one of a selection of media types. I have exported to flash, windows media encoder, dvd mpeg from within Premiere. I have also saved as an avi. If you want to export to DivX, you need to get the DivX application from them. I have also done that.
The process is actually pretty simple. The biggest problem is in deciding what resolution you want the finished product to possess. You have to know what you want.

That much I know. However when I am going to export, the options I have are very limited. I don't have Flash Video and for AVI I have very few codecs. I was asking which ones I would want to use, specifically for High Quality Youtube Video.

Here are a couple of possilbe solutions: You can either export from the Premiere timeline as native DV-AVI (large file) or MPEG-2 (which can be archived on DVD). Take that final exported file, whether DV or MPEG-2, and convert to .flv using Winff (freeware). Or you can open a finished DV-AVI file in VirtualDub (freeware again) and export to Divx or Xvid. (Make sure you have the proper codec loaded on your system first. Then, in VirtualDub, you must select it under Video > Compression.)

DV-AVI I should be able to export and VDub should be able to read no matter what, right?

I just installed the DivX Bundle from the site and VirtualDub still can't compress to DivX.

    What gives?

Wait, I think it's cause i have 64bit. Would that cause issues? Where can I find the 64bit DivX?

I think I got it. I was able to export to DV-AVI and open in VDub. I think my issues were not having the 64bit VDub. I also downloaded the 64bit XviD since I can't find DivX in 64bit.

I'll probably have more doubts later but for now I think I'm good. Thanks everyone!

    P.S.
Best codec and settings for YouTube? Anyone?
