I am using ulead VS 5.0 and IEEE 1394 card. What is the fastest way to capture video from digital camcorder and make VCD?
I tried but this software created avi file instead of MPEG-1. It
took 6 hours to capture just 10 min and used 1.5GB of disk space. Then I
made MPEG-1 file out of avi file and that took couple of more hours.
Is there any option by which I can directly make MPEG-1 file?
In "Change Capture Plug-in" drop down I do not see "Ulead MPEG DirectShow Capture Plug-in". I see only "Ulead DirectShow Capture Plug-in" option. The ulead help says "IEEE 1394 interface card does not support MPEG video capture." If that's true then what capture card i need to buy?

I think your basic problem is that VideoStudio 5 is incapable of capturing MPEG, and in fact must capture to AVI, regardless of your capture card. Note, however, that VideoStudio 6 has just been released, and is capable of direct-to-MPEG conversion from DV. The upgrade cost if you own VideoStudio 5 is about $45.
I just upgraded, and VideoStudio 6 is a vastly improved product in terms of user interface, and a modestly improved product as far as technical capabilities go. One last note...the direct-to-MPEG feature will only work with a digital Camcorder, or at least with a digital video signal. You CANNOT capture analog signal direct-to-MPEG, as I found out after wasting a few hours of my time and calling Tech Help at Ulead. -
If you are using Version 5.0, and are capturing from a Digital Camcorder, you are capturing in .AVI format. Be sure your project options is set for DV/AVI or else once you end capture it may start rendering to MPG or whatever the project is set for. I reccomend capturing using the "Screen Detection" option. This will divide up the capture session into several files which will make it easier to do rough editing in Storyline mode. Videostudio captures in real time so 10 minutes of capture takes 10 minutes. VideoStudio 5.0 will capture to MPG only from a analog source. Once I have done my editing, i then render to MPG-1 white book or whatever format. I also have upgraded to 6.0 which can capture to MPG from a DV source. However it captures about 1 minute of file then it stops and "Flushes DV Transcode Buffer". This takes about 3-4 minutes. A 10 minute capture took me over an hour to capture to MPG. This is not acceptable. It is faster to capture to AVI then convert to MPG. This is a bad flaw of this program and I am in the process of asking for my money back. 6.0 is a good program but not worth the money because of this flaw. Use 5.0. If you are looking for another program, try MGI Videowave or Pinnacle. Better yet, download MovieXOne.
