Hello all, I am trying to convert a number of tutorial videos that are in the .MOV format, I tried converting a few in TMPGEnc 4 Xpress but the end result has no audio and other times it wont convert and I get an error message saying "invalid sample format" . I have installed the quicktime alternative codec on my computer, I can also play the mov files fine but cant seem to work out the problem of converting them to avi. Here is a screen shot taken of Gspot's info of the file.

    Thanks

    edit

I've tried an app called, "Mov2Avi" and the results looked bad, (Could have been my settings) although it worked.(audio and video played in the avi)

    EDIT> 9/11/08> 8:35am (EST)

I decided to try my old friend ConvertXtoDVD and it converted the .Mov files PERFECTLY to DVD. Although its not in avi format at least I can convert them to avi from dvd.

    MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.

if convertxtodvd works, then use gui4ffmpeg to convert to avi. In the "enter more options field" type -sameq

@ Baldrick, I tried mpeg streamclip but got errors when trying to import my .mov file. I installed 3ivx_MPEG-4 codec along with quicktime alternative ver. 1.81 (I think) still I couldn't get it to import. I will carefully try it again, to evaluate between the other tools. Is there something I may be overlooking? This tool seems interesting. Thanks Baldrick.

@ DarrellS, I tried to import my .mov file into Virtualdub but it did not import. I also have quicktime alternative installed. Is this the same as the plugin you suggested? Thanks D

@ VirtualDoobMon, I tried gui4ffmpeg, and my .mov file loaded without a problem, I tested some of the settings and they were interesting. I converted a couple of .mov files and the quality was quite decent. I like the way the options are contolled by code, I will definitely look more at the documentation to learn more of the codes. Is this what is referred to as a command-line tool? This is one tool that will be going in my programs archive . Thanks VDM

No but you do need that file also if you don't have quicktime.

Here is a link to all the Virtualdub plugins...

I installed the plugin into Virtualdubmods directory and it opened my .mov file fine and it also played the audio when I previewed it but it plays the video fast. The fps are the same (viewing file info in VDM) after loading my .mov file into VDM using Directshowsource template, any solutions on this?
I also grabbed the flv plugin

Wow, the plugins aren't supposed to work in VirtualdubMod. They're made for the newer versions of Virtualdub (1.8.6). Quicktime.ini goes in the Virtualdub directory and the Quicktime.vdplugin goes in the Virtualdub Plugin directory with all the other VDub plugins.

I just noticed the 5fps in the QT file. Without the file, I can't tell you exactly how to fix the file.

The above gspot reading does not represent the actual file Im using now but the video and audio codecs and the frame rates are the same. I just noticed VDM was encoding it at 25fps. It was set that way when I imported the video (.mov) Would that be the problem?

The plugin is installed just as you say Darrells and it does work for me. Thanks Darrells

    EDIT>

I used "Frame rate conversion" in Virtualdubmod and entered "5" in the Convert to fps space to match the framerate of the original (actually it was 4.511fps). Now after encoding my .mov file, to .avi, it plays at normal speed.

Still I would like to know, Did my video play faster because of the great increase in fps, ex. 5fps to 25fps?

I've also tried the FlvInputDriver installed in Virtualdub and it seems to work so well. I also tried FlvExtract with Virtualdub and it performed well too.
