  1. I am planning on updating from MMC 6.3 to 7.1 because at the moment I can't capture to huffyuv using Vdub.

I am going to install the following components:
    DirectX 8.1
Video capture update for directX 8.0

Do I need to uninstall 6.3 before I install 7.1
Do I need to update to the latest rage 128 pro windows 98 display drivers i.e. 4.13.7192.

My capture card is an all in wonder 128 pro 32mb

Is there anything else I need to do to make sure I have no problems.

goto the how to capture section on left and look for capturing with ati aiw
it will guid you thru the best way of installing mmc 7.1. I used it and prevented alot of headaches

  3. I have little experience with the system registry, in the capture guide where it tells you to start regedit and delete the keys does this mean the directories.

Yes, the keys look like directories(little folder) Del the keys that have anything to do with ati. I have done this with mine. If you feel uneasy about it. Make a backup of the registery. click on the plus sign and del the keys listed in the guide.

I too am an ATI user. I have the All In Wonder 128. I've noticed that I am unable to do regualr huffyuv avi captures at 480 lines when using their latest driver and mmc 7.1 So stay with the newest driver that supported capture at 480lines and mmc 6.3

Can any support this conclusion? If so I'd like to find the reason or maybe some alternatives.

  7. Ok I had a feeling all would not go according to plan. I have done what is discribed in the guide and now I cannot capture using virtualdub at all.

When I try to capture AVI I get the following errors.

Error 418 capture driver is not installed properly

virtualdub cannot connect to the desired capture driver, trying all available drivers.

Panic Virtualdub cannot connect to any capture drivers.

I think this might be the problem, if i look in control panel, system, device manager. Under sound video and game controllers there is a problem with ATI multimedia video driver. I have the following error.

The MMDEVLDR.VXD device loader(s) for this device could not load the device driver (code 2)

To fix this click update driver to update the device driver.

However I am not able to find a suitable driver which will work on my system.

    Someone please help.

I would use the add/remove programs tool and remove first all ATI apps and then ATI drivers. Then go to device manager and remove any remaining drivers manually. You might have to reboot per step but I'm not sure. Anyhow once you are done with that, reinstall from scratch again using the drivers that worked before. For virtualdub I use an older driver from ATI. I use wme_w98_r128_4_12_6269.exe for my drivers and mmc 6.3 for the apps. Once these are install VDub, AVI_IO and stuff will work fine. Any drivers or apps newer then the version I stated will not work to capture with VFW. And VDub used VFW (Video For Windows). The newer ati stuff does not include VFW. I guess they got mad at Micro$oft about someting.

I have reverted back to mmc 6.3 and wme_w98_r128_4_12_6269.exe but with this setup I can only capture using the ati codecs.
The reason I wanted to upgrade to mmc 7.1 was to be able to capture using huffyuv. When I installed 7.1 I could capture to huffyuv, but only with mmc not with virtualdub, and I have to say it looked much better than any of the ATI codecs.
What do I need to do to be able to capture to huffyuv with virtualdub because with mmc 6.3 it just does'nt work.

  11. OK I cant believe what a pillock ive been.
I was expecting to see huffyuv appear in the video format selection box, I now realise that I have to select YUY2 as the format and huffyuv as the compression codec.

Still hav'nt been able to get mmc7.x working with vdub though says acm peripheral not found.

Is this because I have to install the VFWWDM wrapper, because it makes no mention of that in the guide on this site.

Does anyone know if its possible to use MMC 7.5 with the non radeon version of the card.
