That author there repeatedly mentions 540x480 (full or standard) resolution for XP/SP/LP and 260x240 for the lower modes. I hope he meant 720x480 and 352x480.

I am planning to buy this model.
Does someone know if he is right or wrong?

That is the problem with reading any reviews on this type of site. They are written by any Joe Blow off the street, and usually by people absolutely no idea about the subject they are writing on. Search out reviews by reputable magazine sites or for specialist forums.

okay, so it was a mistake by him? Since I am a newbie at this I just want to be sure that it is 720x480 and NOT 540x480.

Also I am able to find the models EZ27K EZ28K for about $50 more. All these and the EZ17K seem to have the same features with tuner in all of them... May be it is the upconversion to 1080p missing in the EZ17K? Does anyone know what I will miss if I buy the cheapest EZ17?

    Thanks

The link I posted has the manual. Download and have a read. Usually the manual will tell you what differences there are between models, and what resolutions are used at what recording lengths. DVD recorder will only record using DVD legal resolutions. The real question is at what point do they start changing resolutions.

I have not seen the manual of any dvd recorder indicate what resolutions are used at what settings. Yeah I am looking at the manuals and they look like photocopies I have no need for the upconversion, SD slot, VIERA link etc, so I think I may not be missing anything with the EZ17. May be it is a older model with many bugs...?

My Pioneer is very specific about what resolutions and audio compression is used at at what compression levels, down to 5 minute increments.

Mine is an older model 540H - no DV in, no HDMI or upscaling, and an analogue tuner. However I have a HD tuner plugged into it, and the picture quality is higher than from the built-in tuner, so it is fine for my needs. I didn't have the HD TV when I bought it, hence not worrying too much about HDMI at the time (and it would have meant going up to a model $200+ dearer at the time)

He could be referring to the DVD-RAM resolution, I suppose.

Which means what, exactly ? DVD-RAM is just media, and doesn't care about resolution anymore than DVD RW does.
