Moderator yoda313 already issued a warning about making political comments in this thread and I am also going to warn posters about making religious comments. Both are in violation of our rules and may result in the poster receiving a warning card. Fair warning.

Oh hell yeah. I'm gonna tread lightly here, but my motivations would be strictly curiosity and not political.
I'd stop Bobby Kennedy from being assassinated and then come back to the "present" to see if the world in general was any different (better or worse).
I'd do the same for JFK.
Then Lincoln.
I'd also learn Latin and then go back as far as necessary to stop the Roman Empire from falling, then come back to see how different the world would be in the 21st century. So much of western culture (European as well as North American) is still heavily influenced by the Roman Empire that I think it would be interesting to see how different it would be.
Alternatively, I'd like to see how things would be today if the Norse had been successful in their attempts to colonize North America."To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research." - Steven Wright
