  1. Hi, I am having problems playing Xvid/DivX/mkv’s on my HDTV. I am getting an horizontal line of pixels anomalies moving from top to bottom of the screen over and over. The windows vista desktop shows fine on the TV and there are no anomalies when showing windows on the TV. The avi’s looks fine on my laptop LCD monitor too. The problem only happens when playing the avi and on the TV set only. Strangely, the full HD demo avi that came with the laptop plays fine on the TV…

    The setup:
I have a Acer Aspire 6920g laptop connect to à Samsung 42” DLP HDTV (720P max resolution, its not Full HD)
The problem occurs when using a vga connection between the laptop and the TV and also happens when using HDMI out (laptop) to HDMI in TV. But I still need to tweak my HDMI connection, I am having resolution problems.
The laptop has windows vista premium and I am paying the video using windows media player and VCL for the .mkv

It could be an overlay/hardware acceleration problem. The hardware acceleration is usually just enabled on the primary monitor(laptop monitor). So try set the tv output the primary monitor(under control panel->desktop->settings) and see if you see any difference when playing movies.

  3. I have set the TV has monitor 1 and disabled the laptop LCD when the HDMI is plug. When I unplug the HDMI cable, the laptop LCD comes back on. Works perfectly, no more video tearing.

I found the Nvidia HDTV utility (just had to right click on the desktop to see it in the context menu) and I was able to set the HDMI output to 720p to match my TV native resolution. I needed to resize my desktop using that utility has it was bigger than the TV display. I also manage to set up my logitech harmony remote to work with my setup and with windows media center.

    Thanks for the help.

  4. I still have a thing to setup.

I need to set windows to close de PC when I issue a power off with the remote. Currently, windows goes into a sleep mode instead of closing
