    Hi there,
I'm new to this encoding process. I recently bought in China a Shitty PMP. It does video... but in a strange way. The only video file the PMP has is a .asf file encoded in DIVX4.
This is a video file included in the PMP to show that this litle machina can, indeed, do video.
Well, I just want to put some video in it but I can't manage to make it work
Ok, I've used G-Spot to find out which codec they used to encode the example video file included in the PMP: Here is what I found out:

As u can see uses DIVX4 coded.
OK. So I have a video (MOV) which I can encode to any format I want but... I don't have the DIVX4 to encode it to :S I bought YAMA Video Converter and in this menu I found out that there was no DIVX4 codec.
    Take a look:

Well... How can I convert my video to a .asf file using a DIVX4 codec ? Anyone ? Thanks a lot.
    :P

    A thought:
Maybe it is actually a DIVX4 avi file that has just been renamed to ASF.

Open the original file with a hex editor, and see what it says at the beginning of the file. If it starts with RIFF, then it probably is an .AVI which has been renamed to .ASF

You can get the divx 4 codec here:

I doubt GSpot (see the OP's first post) would mistake an AVI for an ASF, though, even if the extension had been changed. To be sure, unicodE, it might help to run the file through MediaInfo, as GSpot's support for formats other than AVI/MPEG isn't necessarily complete.

First I've heard of an ASF using DivX compression on the video stream, at any rate...

The player didn't come with any sort of software disc? (Though, I've also heard of some players actually carrying the software on the drive/player itself, as a file you can copy and install.) Maybe the company has a video converter for download on their homepage.

No, the player didn't come with any disc. It's pretty shitty as a matter of fact but I paid for it so, well, I would like to use it.
