    re- womble video editor problems.
    For avi vids only,
the problem I have with it is on some vids when I re-encode them ,it changes the the Frame width ,either vertically or horizontally.

By that this is what I mean , you know how when you watch a dvd format on an old standard TV or pc monitor ? and you see gaps
between the top of the screen to where the actual video starts ?
    It has black gaps.
Also down the bottom ,same black gap.

when I use womble editor it changes the thickness of these black gaps ,only on some videos ,though.
Occassionally it also puts in black gaps Horizontally ,which I know is
stupid .I have told womble about this ,but never received an explanation of how to fix this , or if its a bug.
Has this ever happened to you ?
If I do the same editing in VIrtualdub video edito which is free ,it never puts black gaps in any of my newly ecoded vids.

Virtualdub handles 1:1 files without the restriction of things like the DVD specification. This means it will output the same resolution and/or aspect ratio as the source. Womble isn't as flexible, so files that don't fit the specification will be resized to fit.

Post some specs about the videos that cause you grief if you want more details.

Well ,what you just said ,pretty much explains it. Its a pitty though. I asked the Virtualdub team to, see if they could
create a more professionl product similar to that of womble dvd editor, without this black gap problem, but they replied to me ,"saying they wont". I dont even mind paying for the editor as long it has the advantages of both editors.

Womble is ideal for editing out comercials ,and adding different format clips to combine 1, and also I like the cut and paste method that Womble has and its easy to use ,"reverse mode", to have vids playing backwards.

Womble and VirtualDub are two totally different applications.

Womble is an excellent, and dedicated, MPEG editor (cuts, joins, etc). However, if you ever have to re-encode anything with it, well, it's quite terrible.

VirtualDub's author made it clear a long time ago - "I don't do MPEG", and I don't think his tune has changed much over the years. This app is basically an AVI tool. It's a complex and solid AVI tool, but still, only an AVI tool pretty much.

My advice, and moral of the story IMO, needless to say, is use Womble for MPEG and VirtualDub for AVI. And use a good encoder if you need to convert from one to the other. It's as simple as that.
I hate VHS. I always did.
