  1. i have a really nice little olympus point and shoot. it records pretty well, especially the sound is always nice from concerts. but the problem is it only records at 320x240 and it goes on to xD cards which are expensive.

on the other hand i also have a camcorder (hv20) but i dont want to take it to concerts and the like. so i'm looking for something in between.

i saw the sony gc-1, but that didn't seem to stay on the market for very long.

basically i'm looking for a point and shoot that's small but will boast stuff like mpeg-4 recording

My bro had something called Take-it MV-500 some 2-3 years ago.
It was small enough to hide in your palm, captured 640x480 MP4 and took still pictures at 8 Mpx (or 12 Mpx interlaced IIRC). The problems I remember was MONO sound (yeah ) no optical zoom, and SD card max size of 2GB only.
For a $100 "toy" it was pretty amazing to see it take better pics and videos than just 1 or 2 years older very expensive Sony camera he had.

Im pretty sure there are newer versions of such toys on the market, with better specs etc, just search around and don't limit yourself to the Sony or other "big" brands.

You might want to take a look at the DXG-569V

This is a fairly small simple point-and-shoot camcorder that does 720p (1280x720) 30fps video with sound. Here in the USA it is being sold for around $169 US Dollars. Please note you will need to buy a SD/SDHC Memory card to do the recording.

It records into some sort of MOV file using H.264

It's very sexy looking if you ask me LOL

My little Canon SD1000 takes 640x480 video at 30 frames per second and the files
it creates are a type of .AVI so most video editing & DVD authoring software has no trouble
    working with the files.

  7. Another vote for Zen of Encoding. I have Canon A710IS and the video quality is quite decent. Of course, its not as small as other Olys but still it can fit in your jacket pocket..
Check out new A720IS, its actually cheaper than A710IS. Both of these use SDHCs so no worries.

One point though, prefer A series over IXUS, you will have more opportunitites to play with CHDK http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page

    The Canon Elph SD1100IS

It takes 640x480 MJPEG videos that are every bit as good as an SP mode VHS tape. These can be converted to DVD with quality on par with an excellent VHS tape, or converted to web video (FLV, like Youtube) quite well.

Buy it online from Adorama.com for the best price (professional camera store in New York, not a scam, not an "unknown" store). Use 4GB or 8GB SD cards.

I hope to buy one very soon. So far other people I know own these (from my suggestions, mostly) and they work so darned well.

I'll be damned if you weren't right

    from the site:
The DXG-569V is one slim, sexy and sleek high-definition camcorder that can record real HD video, up to 1280 x 720 at 30fps.

might as well sell it then if you're not going to use it since it's depreciating every day...
